Welcome to our Art and Design Blog
“Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness.” Anni Albers
Monkwray Junior School is a happy school where bravery, effort, progress and individuality are celebrated. We nurture and inspire children to develop confidence and resilience in an environment where efforts are valued and all children flourish. At our school, we are committed to ensuring that the emotional and social needs of all our children are met within our school environment, and we aim to support the development of children’s health and wellbeing, self-esteem and confidence through art and design.
As part of providing a broad and balanced art and design curriculum, we hope to nurture and support all children with learning opportunities to engage in a wide range of art and design experiences. We aim to provide pupils with the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form; to fire their imagination and use art and design as a fundamental means of personal expression. While it is essentially a practical subject, art and design at Monkwray should provide opportunities for reflection and, with increasing sensitivity, pupils should acquire the ability to make informed, critical responses to their own work and that of others. Additionally, at Monkwray, pupils may gain access to cultural richness and diversity and the appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enriches all our lives.
