As part of our science topic of “materials and their properties”, we visited the Centre for Life in Newcastle to participate in a Discovering Chemistry workshop. Upon entering the lab, we had to put on a pair of safety glasses and a lab coat to make sure that we were dressed appropriately for using chemicals. During the workshop, we mixed substances and observed their reactions. We also used our newfound knowledge to identify a unknown substance by comparing the reactions when it was mixed with different chemicals.
