Welcome to our History Blog
“Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” – Winston Churchill (paraphrasing George Santayana)
At Monkwray, we seek to instil in children a sense of excitement and wonder about the past and an enduring enthusiasm for learning about it. The study of history teaches us important life skills, such as critical thinking, questioning and link-making, and our curriculum has been devised with the development of these skills in mind. We aim to provide children with a wealth of opportunities to experience history outside the classroom, where it can be more fully brought to life.
In History we can:
Be brave enough to ask questions about the past.
Be curious to find out about how people and events made the world we live in.
Be Bright
Be bright and think about how the past can help us understand the present and the future.
Be bright and investigate evidence to discover what happened in the past.
Be You
Be proud of where you live and of the history or your local community.
Remember you are making history today that someone in the future may one day be talking, reading or writing about.
