“Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood.” – Unknown Author
Monkwray Junior School is a happy school where bravery, effort, progress and individuality are celebrated. We nurture and inspire children to develop confidence and resilience in an environment where efforts are valued and all children flourish. At our school, we are committed to ensuring that the physical needs of all our children are met within our school environment, and we aim to support the development of children’s health and wellbeing, self-esteem and confidence.
We hope that our Physical Education curriculum develops pupils’ physical competence, confidence and their ability to use these skills to perform in a range of activities throughout the school day and at home. We aim to promote skilfulness, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. We strive for our PE curriculum to provide a varied range of opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive, co-operative and face up to challenges.
As part of providing a broad and balanced PE curriculum, we also hope to nurture and support not only the children’s physical health but also their spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and promote the fundamental British values in their young lives. Pupils will learn how to think in different ways to suit a wide variety of creative, competitive, cooperative and challenging activities. They will learn how to plan, perform and evaluate actions, ideas and performances to improve their aptitudes, abilities, preferences and make choices about how to get involved in lifelong physical activity. We aim to support children to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead healthy and active lifestyles now and in the future.
